More often than not the motivating force of many artists/ painters to exhibit their work in local galleries and cultural centers is deep - seated basedon anger and rage to prove to local folks that "I'm somebody ".
Sadly, for most artists who pine for national or international recognition, but limit their horizons to local or regional resources and venues. Their longing will go unfulfilled because the artist have yet to understand the universal law that national and international recognition and support usually comes from venues and audiences outside of your neihgborhood.
But it all starts in your neihgborhood kiddo! The rest is destiny.
kickass rigo....cgg
The Educational system that gives mixed messages about the visual arts have contributed to the shaping of our society of individuals who do not value or trust their own opinions and feelings about visual art.
As a result of the public's intimidation by visual art and insecurity about their beliefs and feelings, a power structure has developed withing the art world comprised of intermediaries whom we have come to depend on as sources of truth.
you don't have to depend on anything. the educational system is a mere part of your total education. its like shopping, you get what you need and want, and walk by the other stuff!
... Puro Pedo, puro pedo !!!
Oh no the Brownsville Lieteray Review has invaded the AOB!
That's an impressive piece. Bravo.
Your second link led to an "item not found" notice.
Why and What do you mean ?
During the 1970's the alternative - art - space movement emerged in reaction to the constrictive and rigid structure of commercial galleries and museums. Artist / painters took the initiative to organize and develop their own ehibition spaces, using such places as abandoned and unused factories and indoor and outdoor public spaces that previously had not been considered places to view or experience art. Some alternative places adquired a more formal structure, such as artists' cooperatives and became institutionalized with tax - exempt status; All we have and see here in the R.G.V. is the same little group of attendees at the opening of any art exhibit.
True, very true, but the alternative spaces fell apart due to bichering over money and sales. The green eye monster broke most of them up. A group of artiwt tried to dothat here, but down town Brownsville leaseer wanted a total rehab of their buildings with a limited contract for a lease renewal. Once the artist get it going and fixed up, thean the landlord, don't you hate that word, would takeover the updated structure.
Yeah, again We are so Cursed down here, Not to beign so Pessimistic , but a Realistic !!!
What can trully be done... any hopes ???
Yes, become smarter
Ya Nos cargo la Chingada !!!.......
Tragically, there would be slim picking if artists / painters limited themselves only to a gallery that pays for all exhibition costs and expences, including promotion materials, installation fees, reception hor' d' hors and postage.
Sometimes art gallery dealers deduct exhibition expences and / orclients discounts from an artist's share without forewarning the artist of this policy.
There really isn't a foolproof way of shielding an artists from art gallery dealer's fraud. but one sure way to begin to protect yourself is to talk to a client - that he / she can come to your home / house and get it after the show is over with reduced price tag of your own artwork to the minimum price , without telling the art gallery dealer.
wrong, this is why the system sucks, because of this type of monkey bussiness, be honest
Hey , we are ina very bad economic crisis !!
