Bret Lefler at BMFA Opens May 13, 2009

PRESS RELEASE

Artist Bret Lefler believes that being an outsider can have its advantages when it comes to appreciating the cultural landscape of the Rio Grande Valley.“I’ve lived in a lot of different places, and this area is unlike anywhere I’ve ever been,” Lefler said. “People who’ve lived here all their lives probably take for granted what a treasure trove this is.” His exhibition Settings, Signs and Objects, at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art from May 13 to July 11, is an exploration of Valley landscape through Lefler’s abstract and representational approach.
Lefler’s exhibition will feature not only painted canvases but digital photographs, collages, and sculptures made from found metal objects. He says that while viewers will find many recognizable landmarks in his work, other works are more abstract in approach. For admission prices and times, please visit the museum’s new website, brownsvillemfa.org, or call (956) 542-0941.

I'll gladly trade our "trove" for your job and income. Try living on the other side. What you see is not always what you get, you sound just like the typical.....
