"Mujeres" at McAllen Artwalk
February 5, 2011 - March 4, 2011
The Art Village / McAllen Stained Glass
800 North Main St., Suite 400
McAllen, TX
Artist Claudia Garza draws inspiration from nature, travel and people. She has a BA from St. Edward's University and a MA from the University of Texas at Brownsville.
This collection, entitled "Mujeres," is an homage to the different women that have shaped Garza's life. Some are based on real-life characters, such as her regal great-grandmother, "Dona Adelita," who wears fine jewelry and a couture gown and others are simply a representation of the indigenous women of her native Mexico, as is "Nina con Sandia". Although seemingly juxtaposed, both women play an important role in the fabric of Mexico's culture and both paintings have a stylized, abstracted figure, reminiscent of Colombian artist, Fernando Botero.

very cute work
They look just so inocent, so Tex - Mex Curios and Safe little
" Cositas ". Why, Why ?????
" So Femenine and Folkish " ---Otra vez, ya nos cargo la chingada!!!
I hear most often from artists / painters who want to postpone or avoid knuckling down. Artists who engage in this form of rationalization do little or nothing, financially or motivationally, in oreder to attain their goal of finding a suitable work space here in Brownsville, Texas.
Like you?
Hey, I work at " La Marketa ".
Are You ?... you must be kidding !!!--- can I call You ?
Enough with " MEXICAN - AMERICAN CURIOUS SOUVENIERS "... No Wonder everyone fro The entire civilized World looks DOWN on us.
ah, but the greatest percentage is not civilized, that makes the majority! also, most work even most fine art is decorative and crafty, that what people want
Sadly and unfortunately so true!
Occasionally a gallery owner advances the artist/ painter money, a mere pittance. Since there is no formal arrangements regarding advances against the sales. The gallery owner has the power to obligue or deny his request for money. Making matters worse, the art dealer is lazy and has a very limited knowledge of how to sell art . His wife is wealthy and he is not under pressure to earn money. He has the personality of a barrracuda and alienates everyone who crosses his path. Consequently, He sells very little work.
No, what is wrong with that. Not the uncivilized thing, but with the craft or decorative thing?
As long as you art work is
" Selling Sacred, folkish Mexican - American Curious, Flowers in a clay pot, Cactus with a cowboy lanscape, Sea Scapes, Charro - day Silly Dancers," etc... You 'll make it big here in this Ejidote called the R.G.V., of South Texas.
Again so what is wrong with that, get over it. people are free to do what ever they want. Who are you to tell them otherwsie?
o.K. mISTER.. wHOM ARE YOU tO TELL Me... THAT'S MY RIGTH OPINION !!!
Here in The Rio Grande Valley - Many idiosyncrasies, envies, ironies, resentments, jealously and irrationalities surround art reviews and art criticism, beginning with the " words without pictures" approach used by the local newspapers and periodicals. Althoug a publication might publish as many as ten reviews, in most instances - nine of the ten reviews are unaccompaniedby photographs of the artwork beign described. Paintings, sculptures, drawings, assemblies and other visual media, unlike other art forms, such as concert, can be reproduced in print ! but for illogical reasons most reviews about visual / plastic art are unaccompanied with visual documentation, a less than subtle message that the words surrounding the artwork are more important than the work itself !!
Very and so true !!!

This stuff reminds me of the late Maestro Mr. " FRANCHUTE "... I believe She wants and is trying so hard to copy Him again - can we all named her " La Pequena Franchichita "??
