As the aproaching deadline -
Jan. 5th for "The International
Art Show" and Cesar Martinez beign a " Chicano" artist/painter. I can just picture what kind of faces all those board members will be making, as all or most art pieces will be dealing with the real pain of oppression that They will be expressing on their artworks.

The BMFA International Art Show is coming up, which is being Judged by Cesar Martinez, a great opportunity for some artist ( those who like a little competition), yet it is somewhat descouraging to see there is no Director no Curator - I mean , to whom are the entries being submitted to ?, I question, that of which comes with an entry fee - which is besides the point..should the artist care ? in the end the judge is Cesar Martinez and I doubt anyone is going to tell him whats good or what is not..in all fairness..

its ok chavo, the fee is standard in almost all shows of this type. there are two people taking care of the two positions, this too chavo is ok. el bato cesar knows his job, but don't expect the obvious or expected. it is not a chicano show, it is an open show, so don't be surprised if a obra not related to chicanismo doesn't win, which is fair. still lets bring out a big chingon body of la raz art and make him welcome, regardless if it does not win, or is not included in the selection, remmber it is a juried event chavo.

The new directora is Marcela Ronquillo de Hinojosa, who curated the Gerardo de Leon ("Franchute") exhibition that is hanging now. She was elected at the last board of trustees meeting. Her husband Balthazar is currently a senator in the mexican chamber of deputies, which meets in Mexico City. He was previously the presidente (mayor) of Matamoros.

I recently learned of an artist / painter who had been asked by his dealer to crate and pack a painting that had been sold through his gallery.
When the Buyer unpacked the crate and found and found the
" Otro gran Manchador Del Valle del Sur de Texas " - type of work. He received quite a shock, and so the relationship among the artist and the gallery owner ended.
Dealers can also be cruel or even sadistic, heaping abuse on artists while artists / painters Masochistically allow it:
An artist / painter took slides to a dealer. while he was viewing his work, He lit a cigar. After examining the slides He said that he wasn;t interested - His work was " Too femenine and folkish ". He then preceded to give the artist a lecture on the history of art, all while dropping cigar ashes on his slides and hands.

and so it is

Some artists / painters have no problem to accept the promise that the reasons for rejection are for lack of self - confidence, leadership to inovate and not to be a follower.
It is possible for artists to be capable of producing an identity crisis, specially here in the Tex - Mex border. Their Sadomasochistic sellf - inflicted pain is of great pleasure and find themselves stripped off new goals, direction, creativity, explorations , imagination and a sense of purpose.

In addition, a consignment agreement should protect an artist / painter againstv the assignment or transfer of trhe contract, and address the very important issues of moral rigths, arbitrations, copyrigths, and insurance.
A consignment/ exhibition agreement should protect and cover all of the issues just raised, but it should also outline the ehibition - related responsabilities between an artist / painter and gallery owner / art dealer. Does the gallery pay for Press - tv. advertising, catalogs, posters, magazine - newspaper announcements, postage for announcements, press releases, special installations, photography sesions, Tv and/ or radio interviews opening receptions, and private screenings ? Or are all or some of these costs split between the artists/ painter and the gallery owner --- or fully absorbed by the artist / painter ?
