Think twice about entering into a gallery's exclusive realtionship. What are the benefits and disadvantages of an exclusive arrangement, as compared to beign free to exhibit and sell your artwork through an unlimited number of venues? Does the agreement provide provisions to receive a realistic amount of financial compesations to make it worth your while, such as a monthly stipend as an advance against future Low montly - payments sales here in Brownsville ?

Do NOT look at the opening asa means to sell your artwork or receive press coverage. If it happens, great, but many critics boycott openings, and rigthfully so, for with all the people pressing themselves against the walls [ hoping they can be absorbed into the plaster , how can anyone really see the art ? And many serious buyers like to spend some quiet time with the artwork, as wll as with the artist and art gallery owner / dealer, and an opening is not the time or place to do it.
Some openings are planned around a lot of booze / wine to liven things up, and while things can get peppy, often in the high of the night people make BUYING PROMISES THEY WILL NEVER KEEP.

Most people will try to get a free ride, free stuff and discount ARTWORK FROM A DESPERATE ARTIST / PAINTER. This has to stop, here in the R.G.V. of South Texas most people are used to getting this way - Why ?!?
