Blurbs about local art by Gabriel Trevino

“Blurbs about local art” by Gabriel Trevino

What is art if not a reflection of a society. For me, one of the things I look at when I go see art and question is how was it produce and what inspired it.
The way we create art, the mediums we choose whether it’s ; pencil drawings, acrylics or oils, and or industrial paints to house latex paint, or found objects to news and magazine clipping for collages, and that is only mentioning 2dimensional art, but you can imagine what may apply to 3dimensional work. The accessibility of art supplies has change within the last 20yrs, the idea of being an artist is more commercial than ever.
If you can understand the cost involved in high quality fine art supplies vs. craft – or none traditional art media, you can understand how and possibly why certain work is put together a certain way.
In the end it can all be and it is considered art regardless of how it’s made, considering the quality factor.

Locally, most of the works imagery is inspired by border issues and or Mexican art and culture. It is what defines our art from the art produce by the rest of the world. It will continue to cultivate and perhaps evolve as it continues to become more contemporary.

I think it is important to understand that art is not only a social or political idea. That what is most important is the principals and values are based on creativity and design.

Brownsville Museum of Fine Art Teaches Students Both Young and Old

There are momentous art collections distributed throughout the state of Texas. Museums in big cities like Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin are well known for their Renaissance, Surrealist, Baroque, and Impressionist collections, featuring such captivating minds as Frida Kahlo, Rembrandt, Claude Monet, Salvador Dali, and many more. Though these metropolitan cities may have their share of famous artists from renowned, historical art movements, very few Texas cities can match the caliber of modern, visual art on display at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art.

Brownsville is quickly becoming a central hub for some of the U.S.'s and Mexico's most impressive works of modern art, and you don't have to be an artist to take part in all the creative excitement either. In fact, the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art isn't just a display center for some of the most respected art on the scene today; it also hosts a number of art classes for students – both young and old – to utilize. Below is a description of the art classes available to the community of Brownsville through the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art.
Adult Classes and Workshops
For people who want to brush up on their skills or try their hand at art for the first time, the daily classes hosted at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art are extremely informative, thorough, and affordable. I have a close friend who has been attending the Sketching & Drawing class on Mondays for the past year, and her portraits and sketches have improved in vast, impressive strides. Even if you aren't the most art-savvy individual, these classes and workshops are extremely approachable and move at a pace that most anyone can handle. If you're looking to learn more about repousse, mixed media, oil & acrylic, and numerous other art forms, check out the list of classes being offered by the museum through this link. Classes are $20, workshops are $120, and if you're a member of the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, they are free.

Kids Art Classes
There is nothing more wondrous to behold than a child's imagination and creative spirit. Indeed, children are willing to take risks and explore ideas that most adults would never allow themselves to consider or undertake. This sort of behavior makes children the greatest art pupils. In fact, art is an effective way to develop and further a child's creativity, even if the child isn't the most ideal Pablo Picasso prodigy. Every artist has to start somewhere, and oftentimes the best way to introduce children to various art mediums and techniques is to teach them in a group setting. Throughout this summer, the Brownsville Fine Art Museum hosted seven children's art camps, which taught an array of basic art skills. The Brownsville Herald even ran a story on one of the instructors of the series. The summer art series ended in July, but if you want to access classes or art resources for your child, contact the museum directly to find out how.
Art classes are a great way to expand both your knowledge and understanding of art. Keep in mind, the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art is just one of the many educational resources you can access in the city. The University of Texas at Brownsville is also a great place to learn more about fine art, especially if you're a college student. Do yourself a favor and seek out any and all resources you can find to help you learn more about the ins and outs of great art.<
