Libertad es Abstracto

Libertad es Abstracto

la pintura es vivir en el sueño
de darle importancia a la nada
pensar en el mas alla, tan
lejos despues de tu muerte

querida vida no te canses

It be interesting to see more art by local female artists. You don't hear much about them other than the Women's History Month exhibit at the BHC but for example, even the online poll in the margin does not list any female artists.

Any comments on why there is less exposure of female artists in Brownsville? Is it something inherent of the Brownsville art scene, that it is more available to men or are female artists just not making much effort to get their names or art out there?

Really, the only female artists that can come to mind are Toni Hudson and Celina Hinojosa and a few emerging artists out of UTB and female faculty members such as Nancy Schlight. But besides them, can you name any who have made a name for themselves in the community as artists?

Lucy Quezadas of Brownsville is a name to be noted as a female artist whos been an active artist in several group shows and a muralist. Also two other names come to mind right off the bat, and that is Celeste de Luna of Harlingen, Linda Saldaña of Port Isabel, who have been very active in the group shows including some at the g409. I would like to see a one women show of either one here in Brownsville in the near future..And yes they were in my to add list in the TAOB poll, I list seemed to have gotten to feel to long so I cut it off..but it it's not the first poll and it won't be the last...
Thanks for noting that..
