Paul Valadez "New Work" Art Review

I want to start by saying how the work was very well curated, the show made the 409 look 3times its size even given that it was alot of work on display..
One onside of the gallery, the work of human labels and stereo types on the other the work about pets in particular cats and dogs..
I find Pauls, work to be very pop-post modern, contemporary..His work can also be considered mainstream art , art of the now..
I couldn't help but remember what Chris Leonard said: "he tries not to make it a formulated process" at the openning of "New Work" about the work of Paul Valadez. We talked or questioned the idea, the possibilities of Pauls work being a sort of commodity, and if so, what would distinguish it from art found at a local Wal-Mart or TARGET ? I think about Andy Warhols work of how he tried to do away with all human link and produce his work as example the soup can mass produce, hense the "factory".
The only thing I think that bothered me about the show was what Mark mention: "Paul's work was all about the labels", which is clearly seen in Pauls work but, what was interesting to me is the label of the exhibition itself "New Work" which didn't fit to well in my opinion it felt short, the work is much more than that....
My first impression of Pauls work was I thought meant to be a sort of POP LATIN AMERICAN style art, with strong social statement.. I now see he has a softer side, a more pop style, that likes to paint kittens label as "cute"......
All in all the artist has proven his style, his perhaps mastered formula...
My question is does the artist only work with this formula or will the artist work it until it evolves...??? Perhaps only time will tell.

Will your reviews ever evolve? You are the worst Art critic ever! You don't understand up from down when it comes to Art. This blog has annoyed me for the last time.

Listen,…. Gabriel might not be the sharpest tool in the box, but you have to hand it to the guy he does this for no money….if you think you can do better and you and anyone else with a pulse can probably do better….but hey,…are they or you doing something about it…NO…so walk away from this like you do the rest of your problems…FYI…nobody will lose any sleep over you not looking at this webpage..

good for u mario, yea gabriel is a "doer". the show however was same old same old a pattern i have been seeing at the 409

I have to agree with u 100% on this one…….. “same old same old a pattern I have been seeing at the 409” not only that if you go to any alternative gallery or bar from the West to the Midwest and in the New York area you will see a handful of artists using this exact type of imagery…nothing good or new…but it is “cool” for people that do not know any better.

What is more sad, an artist who clings on a someonelse's blog for self promotion or the same artist who claims to be Mario Escamilla just to further say Valdez's work sucked?

What’s sad is your comment…either you are paul, a friend of his or an artist I have critiqued ….me…I am who I am, and I do what I do like it or not…. hey chief the last time I checked this is still a free country where one can do and say what they please….if I want to write a comment, I’ll write it…. if I want to write my name and not leave it as anonymous I’ll do it… If I do not like something… I won’t…not you or anyone else will tell me what to think, say or not say …….and to finish I don’t have to further say anything…… the artwork speaks for itself and those who know about art… which you obviously don’t..get what I’m saying

The problem with you Trevino is that you don't say what you want to say. Go all out and say Paul is a sell out. Say that you want a solo show at 409. Change the name of the blog to the art of Gabriel Trevino. It has mostly your stuff anywayz.

If you can't,stick with the pulga and garage sales to sell your art.
The work behind you says it all.
