A powerful painting, produced in 1990, oil on canvas 48x48, which reflects Gomez signature vibrant color lines, is perhaps one of the best paintings produced in our times. A nude female stands in a dream desert like oasis, gazing pass the viewer . The image also carries the Chicano ideology representation of woman walking across the Rio Grande River. The nude is erotic but facial expression carries no sexual overtone, depicting the subject with a respecting nature.
For me it is interesting how the image wears a symbolic silhouette resembling the Virgen de Guadalupe, which pays homage to local believed appearance of the saint on a bark of a tree which has been turned into a shrine and is located in downtown Brownsville, a street away from the Rio Grande River..
