Carlos G. Gomez exhibit at Brownsville Museum of Fine Art still pending

Perhaps one of the much anticipated exhibitions of the decade Brownsville Museum of Fine Art featuring the work of Social Abstract Surrealist: Carlos G. Gomez still pending.

And I say this with all respect to the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, I think they have done and continue to do an impressive job with the exhibits at the new BMFA building as well and truly with the utmost admiration for Carlos G. Gomez who's work has inspired me, almost every artist I know, and beyond.......having said that, I would greatly like to see happen hopefully sooner than later an art exhibit by this great painter....looking at his work above, it is perhaps unbelievable this was not one of the first exhibits since the BMFA openning........

SOCIAL ABSTRACT SURREALIST

CARLOS G. GOMEZ

At the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art

Call it a new years wish list for The Art of Brownsville or simply an art exhibition much anticipated. I think the highest demand seen in TAOB comments have been about the demand for this exhibit.

Are We All Begging Now For an Exhibition at B.M.F.A., Like Everywhere around This Town... I Wonder What's Next ?
Somebody Mentioned That It Is Not That Important To Exhibit Here In Brownsville !!! Is that True, and Why ?

The BMFA, Heritage, Cemetary, Historic is or has shown the capacity to exhibit visual art, with the most practical principal being that it communicates, relfects, resonates aswell as improve the quality of life in our community.
I don't see any reasoning for begging, you should simply communicate what it is you are trying to do.

What about "galleria 409"?

Anonymous said...

It is interesting how Galeria 409 has also been growing and perhaps making a much bigger impact as a musical venue than a art gallery. It has hosted shows from pop rock latino, to punk, to blues rock......... five dollar cover that includes drinks.
On another note also venue for YOGA and known to be a political forum.

Respectfully, perhaps 409 may make a better bar than an art gallery, that has certainly been said before by many...

As I have known M Clark, generally and obviouse to be a generous person, he has lend out his place to many organizations that have asked for it. Not forgetting 409 was the place where TAOB celebrated 3rd year anniversary which was noted on a article on the Brownsville Herald, hey taob continues to be greatful for that..

g409 certainly not a snobby nose art gallery , but has been largly criticize for turning away local artist.
There is certainly a diference on how exhibits get decided..but note Museums are run by a group, and 409 by a single person who either nods his head ye or ney..

But yeah if you want add it to the list....or not.. up to you..

The Mexican Contemporary / Modern Artwork of Pedro Coronel, Francisco Toledo, Juan Soriano, and Rafael Coronel along With The Mexican Female Surrealist Artwork of Remedios Varo and Leonora Garrington Are coming to The M. A. C. T. in Matamoros.

can't compare g409 with the bmfa. one is a non for profit who brings a cultural and educational value to the city, but does not! the other is a profit gallery that serves the owners wishes and does. the dilemma in this is a conflict of interest in that the g409 owner is a bmfa board member and thus has a say so in both which is wrong and obviously needs a closer look…

Why is Ms. Marin The Interim Executive Director of the BMFA ?

word is gomez has not asked for a show there, he is working on his handsome pepper body of work he hopes to premier next spring. i ask when he would consider the mfa, he simply said, when things are right and the museum recovers from barry's death and they can handle what i would propose. i am sure they have their hands full at the moment and besides things are strange here in brownsville. ...later...
